We write to you today with deep gratitude and a heavy heart. Edmund Rice Community Services, of which The Global Centre for Social Justice and Advocacy Leadership (TGC) is a proud initiative, has made the difficult decision to wind down operations by the end of this year. The reasons for this are outlined in the letter from the Chair of ERCS referred to below. Accordingly, all programs and services, including those of TGC, will wind down in the coming weeks.
This means that TGC will no longer be able to accept support from our community. We want to take this moment to sincerely thank you for everything you have made possible over the past 30 years, and for the continued support you’ve shown in our recent journey as The Global Centre.
The Global Centre has represented an exciting new chapter for us and I’m hoping in the next 4-6 weeks to actively explore options for a suitable and sustainable institutional home to continue the work if possible - but should this prove to not be the case - we will be completing operations as outlined above.
Your generosity has helped us walk alongside communities facing immense challenges and has empowered young people and emerging leaders—especially across the Pacific—to build strong networks and advocate for their communities in the face of the existential crisis of climate change.
Though our formal work may be coming to a close, its legacy will live on in the lives of those we’ve walked with, and in the leadership they continue to show in their communities and beyond. This includes the Centre’s legacy with our First Nations communities in Australia and abroad, our work with refugees and people seeking asylum and our focus on climate justice and the rights of our brothers and sisters most impacted by climate change in the Pacific. Our commitment to social justice and advocacy will continue and if, at any point in the future, we are able to find a new home for The Global Centre for Social Justice and Advocacy Leadership in any form we would welcome the opportunity to reconnect with you.
Please see attached a formal letter from the Board of Edmund Rice Community Services, Helen Mahoney, again, thanking you for your support and sharing further details of the reason for this decision.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
